Lithium battery “safety” has always been an important issue plaguing the industrialization of lithium batteries, in recent years the exposure of battery explosion accidents are without exception caused by the use of lithium batteries, talking about the cause of the explosion, compared with other types of batteries, which is determined by the special nature of lithium battery materials and processes. To this end, it is necessary to understand the knowledge of lithium battery explosion, we try to explain from the following three aspects.

　　The national standard, any part of the battery‘s solid material instantly ejected, was pushed to the lithium battery 25cm and above the distance called explosion. The experiment is identified as follows: a circular mesh will cover the experimental battery, so that the battery is centered in a circular position, i.e., 25cm from either side of the mesh, if the experiment no solid part through the mesh, prove that the battery did not explode. Here there are specific instructions for the “net”: the net wire is 0.25mm diameter soft aluminum wire, the density of the net is 6 to 7 roots / cm.

　　All the lithium battery explosion is due to short-circuit caused by the battery heat, and the cause of the short-circuit is overcharged, overdischarged, direct docking of positive and negative electrodes, electrolyte leakage, etc. Therefore, in the design of lithium batteries, the following points can be started.

　　1、Prohibit the battery to overcharge to 4.2V or more;

　　2、Prohibit the battery to overcharge to 2.75V or below;

　　3、Equipped with explosion-proof valve on the metal shell;

　　4、Prohibit short circuit during the process.

　　The process of designing a lithium battery is, of course, the design of the battery protection circuit board. Although this will increase the manufacturing costs of lithium batteries, but for the safe use of lithium batteries is necessary, all regular lithium battery manufacturer‘s products are not exempt from this design.

　　Polymer lithium battery is a kind of lithium battery products made of flexible packaging and polymer electrolyte, under normal conditions of use, storage will not explode, unless the man-made strong damage causes its short circuit.

　　In order to reduce the occurrence of explosion accidents, polymer lithium batteries are being used in more and more occasions, although lithium batteries to replace other types of batteries are still being replaced, but in the type of lithium batteries, polymer lithium batteries have begun to replace ordinary lithium batteries in some areas.
